The role
Under the supervision of the Head of Duty of Care, this role is responsible for providing guidance on organisational welfare practices (policies, procedures and processes) for programme participants to a wide range of teams globally.
The role is responsible for the effective administration and coordination of participant welfare systems across ITV Studios and Media and Entertainment divisions (including commissioned and third-party productions). Additionally, the role may be called upon to help coordinate the company's response to a significant welfare incident (e.g., a participant experiencing self-harm, harm to others, or other escalated mental health concerns).
The team
You will be joining the Global Risk Operations (GRO) team, a pivotal function with a comprehensive global remit. Our team is dedicated to supporting all ITV personnel in managing risks, ensuring duty of care, and safeguarding across our diverse and dynamic production environments.
The Global Risk Operations team is instrumental in maintaining a safe and secure workplace, enabling our staff to perform at their best. We provide expert guidance and implement robust risk management strategies to protect our people, uphold our values, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
The role has a 80:20 split between the Duty of Care and Health & Safety teams. The main responsibilities are as follows:
1. Advise and support ITV’s Health and Safety Risk Advisors to help ensure the Advisors can effectively deliver welfare risk management advice directly to productions.
2. Collaborate with GRO, the Medical Advisors (Independent Chief Medical Officer and Consultant Clinical Psychologist) and other specialists to ensure that all organisational welfare practices are consistent with the Company’s requirements, laws, industry standards, and best practices.
3. Use the relevant health and reporting systems (SPOT & RMT) to triage and document where support or mitigations are required for low, medium and high-risk productions.
4. Effectively maintain the vetted list of Mental Health Advisors to Productions.
5. Effectively maintain Compass and the Commissioning pages of ITV’s external website to reflect the latest guidance and advice.
6. Support the primary investigator in conducting reviews of significant welfare incidents.
7. Provide non-clinical assistance in crisis management situations where duty of care is a significant concern.
8. Collect relevant data (i.e., metrics) related to participant welfare.
9. Help identify where participant welfare needs to be strengthened and supported by conducting structured risk assessments, audits and evaluations as needed.
10. Evidence of high professional standards by acting within their own area of expertise and referring enquiries to the appropriate service.
11. Communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.
12. Conduct effective meetings and accurately document minutes.
13. Prepare comprehensive reports for formal Health & Safety and Duty of Care meetings.
14. Ensure appropriate follow-up on incidents, accidents and near misses within the designated area of responsibility.
15. Demonstrate the personal skills needed to serve as a Safety & Welfare Advisor for low, medium and high productions.
16. Competently draft risk assessments and other safety documentation for assigned productions.
17. Collaborate with different areas of the business to develop risk assessment documentation and recommend suitable corrective actions.
18. Perform DSE assessments, contractor vetting and routine Health & Safety inspections.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
19. Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Healthcare or Health & Safety.
20. Experience in Risk Management, Healthcare or Health & Safety or related roles i.e. NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3) or Diploma (Level 6).
21. Eligible to be / or a Certified (or equivalent) member of a relevant professional body, i.e. IOSH.
22. Experience in Risk Management, Healthcare or Health & Safety or related roles.
23. Experience in risk management and reporting.
24. Experience working in a health and safety, medical or welfare role in TV, Film, Media or related corporate field.
25. Experience within a health & safety or healthcare environment.
26. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and educate staff at all levels and in a variety of formats (written, lectures, training sessions, workshops, vodcasts etc).
27. Experience with crisis management and incident response.
28. Ability to maintain a calm and effective approach in difficult situations
Please note that both national and international travel will be required for this role, therefore a degree of flexibility is essential. You will also need to be flexible regarding contact outside of standard office hours and be available to provide support in the event of an out-of-hours emergency.
Some weekend work may also be necessary, depending on production filming schedules.
