We have two permanent roles for Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisors within the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B). These roles involve driving the decarbonisation of the economy by supporting the development and implementation of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes. The Advisor responsibilities include: Supporting the development of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes, focusing on specific regimes Contributing to the preparation, review, and publication of technical guidance Advising on issues during the operation of regimes This involves advising government on decarbonisation policies, networking with officials and stakeholders, preparing briefings, and supporting national engagement. A key part of the role is monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions, energy, and materials to ensure accurate measurement and reporting. You will also work on developing existing and new regulatory regimes, such as expanding UK ETS to maritime sectors and regulating heat networks to meet emissions standards. The work is varied and reactive, requiring swift responses to deadlines. The team leads UK policies to reduce industrial greenhouse gases, including the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, low-carbon industrial clusters, and other environmental initiatives. Experience/Skills Required Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and encourage diversity considerations Experience working across multiple teams with different specialisms Understanding of legislation and its policy intent Creative thinking and strong communication skills Experience in data collection, analysis, and supporting persuasive arguments This role suits a numerate science, engineering, or environmental sciences graduate (or equivalent experience) with an interest in policy implementation. Experience in monitoring, reporting, and verification is desirable but not essential. Development opportunities and training will be provided.
