The purpose of a Clinical Research Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW level 3) is to support and facilitate the coordination of clinical trials. The post holder will undertake both clinical and administrative tasks. These will contribute to the daily running of the unit, the safety and care of clinical research patients/participants, and assist the research staff with research activities. The post-holder will work on their own initiative, undertaking delegated tasks, with appropriate supervision in place from the clinical research team
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a highly motivated forward thinking and enthusiastic clinical research health care support worker to join our midwifery research team. The successful applicant will be based at Singleton Maternity Unit and will act as a member of midwifery research team working under the direct supervision and guidance of research midwives. Essential criteria
1. Caring, compassionate attitude to patients and clients.
2. Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi disciplinary team.
3. Able to undertake specific procedures involving physical skills commensurate with practice area e.g. recording of vital signs and venepuncture.
4. Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
5. Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
6. Qualifications and/or Knowledge Good standard of education, including GCSE English and Maths Grades A-C or equivalent Level II qualification.
7. QCF Level 3 (formerly NVQ Level 3) in Health or equivalent level of knowledge
8. Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales.
9. Knowledge of the fundamentals aspects of care and the importance of the promotion of health and wellbeing.
10. Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements.
11. Understand the principles of confidentiality. Understands the principles of consent prior to undertaking care within the research environment
12. Understands the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe.
13. Understanding of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate registered professional for expert help and advice.
14. Understanding of the Health Board’s Values and Behaviour framework.
Experience

15. Experience. Significant experience of working as a health care assistant in NHS
