Job purpose
You will be an internationally experienced Senior Artist Manager with at extensive experience in the field.This role carries strategic responsibility for managing a portfolio of instrumentalists and conductors, serving as the primary liaison between artists and international orchestras, festivals, record companies, PR firms, and senior industry executives.
The Senior Artist Manager will be accountable for designing and executing tailored career development strategies for each artist in collaboration with Directors and other industry professionals. This will involve overseeing strategic marketing, sales, contract negotiations, PR, and all aspects of an artist’s global career trajectory. Additionally, the role will contribute to the broader business development of the company, including geographical market expansion, international touring, consultancy projects, and entrepreneurial ventures.
This role includes line management responsibilities, ensuring effective workflow, career development, and strategic alignment with company objectives.
Key relationships
Associate Artist Managers and Artist Coordinators, Artist Managers, Touring Team, Associate Directors, Directors, Marketing and Communications Team, Finance Team (including CFO) and COO & General Counsel.
Key accountabilities
Strategic Career Management:
* Act as the primary contact for assigned artists, ensuring alignment with their career aspirations and the company’s strategic vision.
* Develop and execute bespoke career plans in consultation with Directors, covering performances, recordings, MD positions, and long-term growth.
* Continuously monitor and assess artist progress, attending performances, analysing reviews, and maintaining close communication with artists and promoters.
* Oversee engagement logistics in collaboration with Assistant Artist Managers and Artist Coordinators, including diary management, contractual details, repertoire planning, and logistical arrangements.
* Provide strategic direction on touring plans, sales initiatives, and market positioning to maximise artists’ global reach.
Financial administration:
* Ensure financial information on artist diary system is maintained (including amounts to be charged to promoter for travel and accommodation) and outstanding fee negotiations followed up on a timely basis.
* Supervise the review of promoter invoices and monthly commission statements to ensure correct and complete.
* Supervise the liaison with promoters and HP accounts department regarding Social Security payments, tax waivers and withholding tax arrangements.
* Supervise the processing of incoming royalty statements and other correspondence relating to incoming monies.
* Keep track of timely payment of artists' fees, and supervise the checking of deductions of tax, social security etc by promoters.
* Supervise the provision of any comprehensive details needed for artist tax returns and ensure liaison with accounts is happening (but nb we do not provide tax advice)
* Ability to produce accurate projections, budgets and other financial information in order to ensure both the Company’s finance team and artists/orchestras are fully informed.
Contracts:
* Negotiate/advise on contract terms, ensure fee negotiations are finalised, process and manage the issuing and finalisation of contracts.
* Ensure there is effective liaison with the Accounts department on all matters relating to timely accounting to artists, commission, and tax arrangements.
* Assist in the administration of contracts which are non-specific to engagements, such as recording and TV contracts, music directorships.
* Negotiate/advise on contract terms for consultancy contracts with specific emphasis on the touring part included in the consultancy if included.
Sales, Marketing & PR Strategy:
* Build and maintain strong relationships with promoters, orchestras, and industry stakeholders.
* Lead strategic marketing and PR efforts, ensuring artists’ careers are positioned effectively within the global market.
* Support the company’s broader marketing initiatives, contributing to brand awareness and market penetration.
* Supervise artist branding efforts, overseeing press materials, digital marketing, and promotional content.
Business Strategy & Growth:
* Collaborate with Directors to define and execute company-wide strategic initiatives, including geographical expansion and new business opportunities.
* Identify new revenue streams and entrepreneurial opportunities, contributing to the company’s financial and strategic growth.
* Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities, acting as a brand ambassador.
Line Management & Leadership:
* Provide effective line management for Associate Managers and Artist Coordinators, ensuring clear role responsibilities and high-performance standards.
* Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering professional growth and strategic understanding.
* Ensure workflow efficiency, task delegation, and coordination between team members to deliver seamless artist management services.
General Responsibilities:
* Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and best practices.
* Contribute to company-wide projects and initiatives as required.
* Maintain a flexible, proactive approach to supporting business needs beyond core responsibilities.
