Job Description
Reporting to the Camp Manager and working alongside a like-minded team of ratio'd staff, swimming teachers are responsible for planning and delivering safe, structured, fun and active sessions to children aged between 5 and 17 in the school holidays.
Swim Teachers need to be able to adapt for varying age and ability levels (children are grouped by age, typically 5-7, 8-10, 11-14, 15-17), focusing on developing water-confidence and basic stroke development. Our programme is all about getting children active so you'll be delivering structured, active games and fun activities rather than a learn to swim programme.
Safety is our number one priority, and Swim Teachers work closely with Lifeguards to ensure preparation of areas and equipment, management of risk assessments, monitoring of water conditions, and management of incidents. Children and staff must adhere to the Kings Camps' Swimming Policy, the venue Normal Operating Procedure and Emergency Action Plan.
Sessions typically last between 30 - 45 minutes, with a maximum of 16 children per group, and are scheduled between 9.30am - 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Staff will work with groups of mixed ability children, supervising during breaks, overseeing equipment use, and recording incidents. Upholding health and safety standards and behaviour policies is essential.
We operate at various excellent school and university venues across the UK and partner with organizations like the RNRMC, Annington Trust, and the Army Welfare Service, running camps for military personnel's children. If you're interested in a residential role, please note this in your application.
Person Specification (Ideal, but with some flexibility)
* SEQ Level 2 or STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher certification.
* 12+ months' experience as a swim teacher
* 6+ months experience working with 5 - 17-year-olds
* Current Lifeguard Qualification: NPLQ or NRASTC (up-to-date certification required). Lifeguarding qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
* A collaborative attitude, comfortable with rotating duties and building positive relationships with children, venue staff, parents, and colleagues.
* Knowledge of risk assessments
* Ability to design, plan, and deliver safe, dynamic sessions from poolside
