Job Description An opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated team of forensic SOC examiners responsible for carrying out rigorous examination of biological evidence ranging from simple swabs to items that are used in criminal activity that require targeted examination. Delivering scientifically robust profiles that support accurate identification and strengthen investigative outcomes. Responsible for completing all examination work associated with Scene of Crime (SOC) laboratory submissions, working flexibly and communicating effectively to deliver results within contractual TRT’s and to the highest quality standards. You will be joining a team that has been commended for its commitment to serving the Criminal Justice System. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities SOC examination work — Responsible for completing all examination work associated with Scene of Crime (SOC) laboratory submissions, ensuring timely processing, high throughput, and effective delivery of all related tasks. Operational compliance — Adhere to all requirements of the customer Operational Protocol, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and the EFS Quality Manual to maintain full procedural and quality compliance. SOP‑driven analysis — Carry out all required examinations and analyses in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring completion within agreed timescales while maintaining accuracy and consistency. Exhibit integrity — Maintain the integrity, continuity, and proper handling of all exhibits, ensuring secure storage, accurate tracking, and compliant return in line with examination instructions and chain‑of‑custody requirements. Lab workflow support — Assist in the daily management of laboratory space and workflow to ensure efficient organisation, smooth task progression, and optimal resource use. Progress communication — Communicate examination progress to the Production Supervisor and escalate any issues that may impact timelines, quality, or operational continuity. Non‑casework updates — Provide timely updates to the Production Supervisor and/or Line Manager regarding the progress of non‑casework tasks to support effective operational planning. Science and Quality support — Assist with Science and Quality activities within the individual’s competencies, contributing to continuous improvement and the maintenance of laboratory standards. Time booking accuracy — Take responsibility for accurately recording daily time bookings in the relevant system, ensuring timely and compliant entry of all activity. Continuous improvement — Seek opportunities to improve methodologies and processes to enhance quality and effectiveness, raising ideas during team meetings and huddles. Customer returns — Assist with the accurate and compliant return of exhibits and materials to the customer, ensuring all procedures and chain‑of‑custody requirements are met.
