Overview

Join to apply for the Support Worker role at Cheswold Park Hospital. This is a Band 3 position within the Wakefield Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (Insight Team).

The team covers the Wakefield locality, working with people aged 14 to 65 and spans adult and children’s services. The post holder will work across the Wakefield area with a named base at the Drury Lane Health & Wellbeing Centre.


Responsibilities

* Provide the highest standards of safe and compassionate planned care to people, maximising recovery and rehabilitation potential.
* Develop and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships; adopt a polite, positive and empathetic approach, communicating effectively and informatively.
* Understand the care and treatment programmes of designated service users; instruct, advise and guide service users, families and carers; communicate changes to service users and registered health care professionals as needed.
* Exercise independence, initiative and judgement; assess situations, resolve potential problems within own level of competence, and follow established policies, procedures and care plans.
* Contribute to care planning by feeding back observations to the registered professional/clinical team.
* Organise and facilitate a range of activities and apply basic knowledge of longer-term health conditions within the remit of care planning.
* Undertake physical aspects of care (e.g., moving and handling) using equipment as appropriate and ensure instruction on their use.
* Assist in managing verbal/physical aggression using de-escalation techniques; may involve restraint or seclusion as appropriate.
* Support service users with personal care duties (bathing, toileting, dressing, meals) as part of a healthcare team.
* Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.
* Adhere to Trust values and maintain a positive, respectful environment for service users, families, visitors and colleagues.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

* GCSE A-D or grade 3-9 in English and Maths or equivalent
* Level 2 qualification or working through with the ability to demonstrate competencies at Level 3
* Care Certificate or equivalent to be achieved within 12 weeks of commencement
* Experience of providing personal care and working in a caring environment at a band 2 or equivalent level

Desirable:

* Apprenticeship Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent
* Experience in the specialty area
* Willingness to undertake further study; supervision/induction experience
* Knowledge of service user safety (e.g., prevention and management of violence and aggression, moving and handling)

Essential Attributes:

* Responsive, adaptable and able to travel around the Trust as required
* Able to maintain a satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years
* Able to meet Occupational Health requirements with reasonable adjustments if necessary
* Excellent customer care, communication and IT skills; ability to work flexibly on a 24-hour shift pattern
* Respectful, non-judgemental, empathetic and able to work within a multidisciplinary team


Other Requirements

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be completed as part of the recruitment process. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, and a Disclosure submission will be required.
