About the role
The Head of Student Support and Wellbeing (Strategy, Governance, and Projects) will provide leadership, management and effective operation of strategy, projects and governance support provision, using data to inform practices to devise objectives for the service. They will engage at leadership level in the development and implementation of inclusive, strategic planning and change across the service and to achieve full integration of these goals and plans into the student support and wellbeing of all UCL learners. The Head of Student Support and Wellbeing (Strategy, Governance, and Projects) will lead a team of skilled managers, comprising expertise in data, governance, and project management, who deliver regular analysis and complex policy advice, alongside driving change management projects and programmes in student support matters within the UCL community. In addition, they will work closely with colleagues in Student Support and Wellbeing, Student Operations, and across the UCL community, to promote understanding of issues affecting student opportunity and wellbeing issues. They will foster a sense of shared responsibility and a holistic approach as a senior champion and business process owner for student support data. A key function of the role will be to hold responsibility for the production of a Student Support and Wellbeing strategy as well as enabling workplans and reviews. The role will also review, develop, and lead governance arrangements across the function with the view to facilitating robust, timely, and effective decision-making processes across all teams.
About you
To excel in this role, the postholder will be a subject expert in creating, reviewing, and driving strategy and policy within Higher Education. They will apply this deep subject knowledge to the UCL context to ensure UCL designs and delivers excellent support for students with a particular focus on implementing policy and business processes within a complex environment. In undertaking these responsibilities, the postholder will liaise with students, colleagues in academic units and Professional Services divisions, and external organisations including (but not limited to): Vice-Provost and Vice-President offices; Faculty Tutors; the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion team; Workplace Health; the Access and Widening Participation team; inclusion networks; Students’ Union UCL; NHS and third sector organisations. The postholder is a key member of the wider Student Support and Wellbeing Management Team, SSW Leadership Team and a representative of the service at senior level UCL working and oversight groups.
