Purpose of the Role
To support the class teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where all pupils can thrive. The Teaching Assistant will work with individuals, small groups, and the whole class to help pupils achieve their academic, social, and emotional goals.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
* Assist the class teacher in delivering high-quality lessons and learning activities.
* Support pupils’ learning through group work, one-to-one interventions, and targeted support.
* Help prepare, organise, and maintain learning resources and classroom materials.
* Supervise pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times as needed.
Pupil Support
* Work closely with pupils who require additional help, including those with SEND, EAL, or behavioural needs.
* Encourage positive behaviour and support the school behaviour policy.
* Promote independence, confidence, and resilience in pupils.
* Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to the class teacher to inform planning.
Administrative & Professional Duties
* Assist with display boards, classroom organisation, and general administrative tasks.
* Accompany classes on trips, visits, and enrichment activities.
* Maintain confidentiality and safeguard pupils at all times, following school policies.
* Participate in training, staff meetings, and performance reviews.
Person Specification
Essential
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English & Maths).
* A patient, caring, and positive approach when working with children.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to follow instructions while using initiative when appropriate.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
* Experience working with children in a school or educational setting.
* Knowledge of the primary curriculum.
* Experience supporting pupils with SEND (e.g., autism, ADHD, speech and language needs).
* Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant Certificate.
