Creative Arts and Music Support Assistant-



Location- Cardiff/ Penarth Area

Salary- £89.38/day

Contract type- Full time



About the Role-

As a key member of the creative learning team, you will work closely with teachers and specialists to support learners in developing their artistic and musical talents. Your role will be central to creating an inspiring, inclusive, and structured environment where pupils can explore creativity, build confidence, and develop essential skills through music and the arts.

You will assist small groups of approximately 6–8 pupils and provide dedicated 1:1 support for learners aged 3–19. This may include helping with music studio activities, supporting radio or media projects, and guiding pupils through creative tasks that promote self-expression, communication, and collaboration. You’ll also play a part in implementing personalised learning programmes and encouraging engagement in activities that nurture emotional well-being and academic progress.

Daily responsibilities may include-

* Supporting learners in and outside the classroom, including during creative sessions in music studios or radio projects.
* Assisting pupils to regulate emotions using trauma-informed and restorative approaches, while encouraging self-expression through music and the arts.
* Providing dedicated 1:1 support where needed, building strong relationships and offering guidance during lessons, breaks, and lunchtime.
* Implementing behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies in a calm, supportive manner.



About the School-

Our SEN School provides specialist, high-quality education for students with diverse range of ALN, who require tailored approaches to their curriculum. The school supports pupils from primary age, where a warm, nurturing, and sensory-aware environment is essential. Through to post 16 study, where learners are guided in developing independence, confidence, and the skills needed for their future pathways.

With a strong commitment to meeting each pupil’s individual needs, the school focuses on enabling learners to become confident, creative, and enterprising contributors. We place great importance on helping every young person play an active and fulfilling role in their community and the life they choose to lead.

The school’s main base is located in Penarth, with additional campuses in Barry.

Requirements-

* No previous experience in an ASD or SEN setting is required, although any work involving young people with ASD, communication difficulties, or behavioural/emotional needs is highly beneficial.
* A positive, compassionate, and patient attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting learners with ALN.
* The ability to remain calm, adaptable, and solution-focused in challenging or emotionally charged situations.
* Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (we can support you with this).
* Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) (we can support you with this).
* Two professional references available upon request.
* Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport (highly desirable for multi-campus travel).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
