Job Description:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills while undertaking varied work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers to provide proactive legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will manage a full, varied, and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers are expected to participate actively in team management, deputise for the Principal Solicitor, and contribute to delivering high-quality legal services.

Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered, your application should demonstrate:
* You are a Solicitor, barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, eligible to practice in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate.
* Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services.
* Ability to provide solutions-focused advice and quickly learn new subjects.
* Effective team working skills, managing priorities to meet deadlines.
* Leadership and organizational skills in client and project meetings.
* Advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council.
The role is hybrid; remote work will be considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, with the candidate expected to collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
You will assist in managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
You will contribute to the wider management of Legal Services, modeling and embedding the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a demanding caseload, delivering solutions with minimal supervision.
The role includes supporting the reduction of reliance on external legal support and undertaking advocacy when required.
You will support the Monitoring Officer by advising on illegality or procedural defaults for investigation.
The role involves training staff within the Council on legal updates and emerging issues.
