Location: Council headquarters, Hamilton
Hours: 35 per week, permanent
Work Pattern: Monday - Thursday 8:45am - 4:45pm, Friday 8:45am - 4:15pm
Salary / Hourly Rate: £65,148 - £66,152 per year
South Lanarkshire Council are seeking to recruit a Legal Services Adviser to be part of a busy Legal team that delivers an excellent service providing representation and expert advice and guidance to the Council. You should be a self‑motivated individual who has effective interpersonal skills, demonstrable organisational and leadership skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team in a challenging environment. The Council’s Legal Team is a high‑performing team that was short‑listed in the Innovation Award category at the 2025 Herald Law Awards.
Reporting to the Legal Services Manager, you will assist with the provision and management of legal services to the Council by effectively managing a team of legal and non‑legal staff to provide an excellent service.
Experience within the area of licensing, including civic and liquor licensing and private landlord registration is highly desirable, as the post holder would act as Depute Clerk to the South Lanarkshire Licensing Board and be responsible for overseeing the operational management of the Council’s Licensing & Registration Team. The Licensing & Registration Team deals with all civic and liquor licensing on behalf of the Council and public registration duties, including births, deaths and marriages.
Qualifications
* Enrolled solicitor with a current and unrestricted Law Society of Scotland Practising Certificate.
* Strong interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience in licensing (civic, liquor) and private landlord registration desirable.
