Overview of the Role

University Catering and Hospitality Services operates a range of retail catering across campus, and an extensive range of hospitality services.
You will be an integral part of a dedicated team working to deliver an excellent standard of food and beverage provision with an enthusiastic, reliable and confident approach. As a Kitchen Porter you will be responsible for a variety of duties including operating the dishwasher, cleaning heavy duty kitchen equipment and the fabric of the kitchen, manual washing of pans and equipment, and waste disposal duties. You will ensure the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and ensure our standards are met and are adhered to at all times.
This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, worked 5 days over 7, usually between the hours of 7am and 11pm. You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business including working regularly on main campus, and working weekends, bank holidays and closure days as and when required, with time in lieu to balance.
Key Duties:
* Providing customers with excellent customer service, responding to customer needs and requests and reporting customer complaints to senior managers;
* Cleaning heavy duty kitchen equipment including ovens and fryers in a safe manner;
* Cleaning kitchen fabric including walls and machinery;
* Working in the pan wash area, manually cleaning pans, trays and utensils and drying and storing equipment in the appropriate area;
* Operating the dishwasher including checking that it is working correctly, assembling before use and cleaning at the end of service, ensuring all items are clean and emptied after washing, and storage items in the appropriate area;
* Clearing tables in the catering seating area and washing any eating utensils and crockery;
* Waste disposal duties including removing rubbish to external bins at regular intervals;
* Carrying out all cleaning duties to meet the University standard, adhering fully to the designated cleaning schedule;
* Ensuring the University Food Safety Policy, Personal Hygiene Policy, Health & Safety Policy and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations are adhered to at all times.

You will need:
* Experience of working in the catering industry;
* Experience of working in a customer focused environment with a commitment to providing excellent customer service and care;
* The ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team;
* Demonstrable behaviours in line with University values.
Additional personal competencies:
* A Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety,
* NVQ level 2 in an associated subject

* Pay: University Grade 2 – £13.05 per hour.
