This role involves competency development to be completed within 2 years, depending on experience, assessed through feedback, self-assessment, observation, and line management. Failure to achieve this may prevent progression to band 6.
The postholder is responsible for assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs, and will regularly take charge of the ward. Supervision and teaching of staff, including students, are required. The role requires adherence to the NMC code and local policies.

Main duties include:
1. Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
2. Collaborating with Key Workers under the Personalised Care Framework.
3. Supporting junior staff and promoting a collaborative approach to patient care.
4. Assisting in quality improvement and care delivery systems based on evidence.
5. Acting as a clinical role model and ensuring standards are maintained.
6. Engaging in clinical governance, audits, and policy development.
7. Managing clinical information, risk assessment, and ensuring confidentiality.

Person Specification
Essential qualifications include RMN/Dip HE/BSc in Mental Health or Learning Disabilities, with postgraduate management training or skills. Experience should include at least two years post-registration in an NHS setting, knowledge of mental health legislation, risk management, and multi-disciplinary work. Skills include leadership, assessment, communication, management, and empathy. Desirable skills include research, change management, and mentorship.
