Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated colleague with a specialist interest in Genitourinary radiology or IR with a GU interest to join our team of 44 consultants. The department provides acute and sub-speciality imaging and teaching support within a large NHS Trust. Portsmouth is a major renal centre serving a wide population and offers opportunities for research and training within the Wessex scheme.


Key Responsibilities

* Subspecialty interest in genitourinary and renal imaging or interventional radiology with an interest in uroradiology; participate in CT, MRI, ultrasound, image-guided biopsies, simple fluoroscopy studies, and GU and Renal MDTs.
* General work including acute in-patient cross sectional imaging.
* Diagnostic on-call service (currently 1:15).
* Diagnostic rota supported by local trainees until midnight.
* Outsourced CT work from midnight to 09:00.
* Weekend on-call work typically 8–10 hours, with time in lieu (time and a third). To be taken within three months of the on-call date.
* Collaboration with colleagues in training, supervision, and support of radiographers and ultrasonographers, including skill-mix training.
* Provide training for the Wessex Radiology Training Scheme Specialty Trainees.
* The post comprises 8 direct clinical care (DCC) and 2 supporting programme activities (SPA). One SPA session can be taken off site. Flexible working options are supported (e.g., compressed plan, four-day week). Additional DCC posts may be available following consultation with the Clinical Director.


Genitourinary Radiology Department

This new Uroradiology post joins a team of subspecialty radiologists. The department supports a 10-strong urology team and provides cancer and stone services, robotic partial nephrectomy teaching, and urothelial malignancy expertise. There are opportunities for research and publication; the Uroradiology Interventional service is provided. Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is a major renal centre serving a large region and performing extensive renal transplants.

Qualifications

* Essential: Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Essential: Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights
* Essential: Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists, or equivalent
* Essential: Subspecialty experience in genitourinary imaging
* Desirable: Management course or experience
* Desirable: Fellowship level training in genitourinary imaging
* Desirable: Interventional Uroradiology experience including image-guided biopsies and some fluoroscopic procedures


Clinical Experience

* Essential: Demonstrable, significant and ongoing experience in GU radiology with substantial subspecialist training, including competence in ultrasound, MRI, CT with biopsies
* Essential: General Diagnostic Radiology skills to support acute general radiology service during weekdays and on-call/weekends
* Essential: Understanding of clinical risk management
* Essential: Evidence of teaching medical, radiographic and nursing staff
* Desirable: Fellowship in Uroradiology
* Desirable: Interventional Uroradiology experience including image-guided biopsies and some fluoroscopic procedures


Skills and Knowledge

* Essential: Professional standards in Clinical Radiology; basic management skills; excellent time management; computer literacy
* Desirable: Publications and presentations in peer-reviewed journals; clinical research training; advanced computer skills; knowledge of service redesign principles
* Knowledge: Evidence-based practice, IT skills, effective presentation ability, and experience inside and outside the specialty
