Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home (SR2) Location: Sunderland - SR2 Salary: £40,000 - £43,000pa Qualification: Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) About the Role We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Deputy Manager to join our established Ofsted-registered children’s home at SR2 level. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong and motivated leader who thrives in a supportive environment and wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people. As Deputy Manager, you’ll support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance are maintained. You’ll spend 1–2 days a week on the floor working directly with young people and staff, with the remaining time dedicated to office-based leadership, planning, and quality oversight. Key Responsibilities * Support the Registered Manager in the effective running of the home and deputise in their absence. * Ensure all care delivery meets Ofsted standards and the home’s Statement of Purpose. * Lead, mentor, and develop a team of residential childcare workers, promoting a culture of professionalism and care excellence. * Contribute to care planning, placement reviews, and safeguarding practices. * Oversee shift planning, supervision, and training of staff. * Ensure all administrative, regulatory, and reporting requirements are met. * Participate in on-call duties on a rota basis. * Maintain positive relationships with external professionals, families, and local authorities. * Be a visible, active presence — leading by example both on the floor and in the office. About You * Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent). * Progressing toward or willing to complete Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. * Previous experience working in a children’s residential setting, ideally as a Senior or Team Leader. * Strong understanding of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding, and therapeutic childcare practices. * Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills. * A passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.
