Purpose of the role:

As a Product Manager in our Product Team, you will work closely with Senior Product Managers, the Heads of Digital Product, and other stakeholders within the business to ensure strategic alignment to ii’s objectives. You will contribute toward the product strategy, be customer‑obsessed, and use data to lead and inform the direction you take. As a manager within the product team, you will lead and mentor colleagues, deliver change, and champion outcomes, prioritise discovery, and challenge whether we are building the right thing. You’ll be responsible for creating and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), spotting trends, potential problems, and opportunities.

Day‑to‑day you will work with your team and squad(s) to ensure they are supported and know the strategic direction to aim for. You’ll spend time with subject‑matter experts across the business, senior stakeholders and exec sponsors, to understand where the opportunities lie and prioritise problems to tackle. In discovery you will validate what we should be doing next, create learnings from what we’ve delivered, and share insights so the team and wider business can learn and improve. When needed, you may act in other roles, support teams, take on light project management, or act as the Product Owner within delivery squads, owning and managing product backlogs. You will manage Product Analysts/Owners, mentor, support and develop them, and ensure they have the right tools and skills to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards Platform and Product level vision(s) and develop and align your roadmap with strategic direction and business goals, taking the lead from Senior Product Managers, the Heads of Digital Product and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute towards the product strategy as an SME of your assigned area.
  • Work closely with your team to ensure that the roadmap can be broken down into a backlog for delivery.
  • Develop and iterate the overarching roadmap for your area, both on and off site, driving clear uplift.
  • Deputise for Senior Product Managers when called upon.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders (UX and Technical Leads) to maintain correct direction and deliver to plan.
  • Perform discovery activities with the assistance of the Data and UX team to understand opportunities and potential solutions.
  • Contribute towards business cases for larger roadmap items.
  • Actively monitor competitor and market activity to identify new opportunities and/or threats.
  • Provide guidance on product design throughout the delivery cycle of progressed roadmap items.
  • Provide product‑management support on enterprise change projects as required.
  • Use data analytics to measure success and identify learnings from changes you’re working on, working closely with the Data team.
  • Own the KPIs and metrics that matter for your area, working closely with stakeholders to ensure success and value of delivered initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with UX to outline potential customer journeys to solve the problems our customers face.
  • Provide direction to your team for product backlog prioritisation.
  • Work with stakeholders and subject‑matter experts to become proficient in your domain.
  • Demonstrate new products and features to the wider business to drive awareness and buy‑in.
  • Report product workstream progress to business stakeholders through a variety of channels.
  • Build a broad and deep knowledge of our products and services to influence overall product strategy.
  • Provide support for live issues and incidents, working with other support teams towards a speedy resolution.
  • Ensure direct reports have the right tools and skills to deliver on expectations, provide day‑to‑day direction and help build tailored development plans.

Essential:

  • Product Management – Demonstrable digital product skillset with experience driving business and customer outcomes using build, test, learn loops, innovation and data‑led prioritisation. Experience in both offline and online customer journeys.
  • Customer and data‑led – Ability to identify a need from a want and evidence it through qualitative or quantitative data.
  • Positive Leadership – Demonstrated leadership capability in cross‑functional and matrix activities with a supportive style and thought leadership with your team.
  • Excellent communication and rapport‑building skills to engage and motivate colleagues across the business, internally and externally.
  • Bias to action – Proactive, takes initiative to ensure the right things get done.
  • Pro‑active, personable, social – Builds relationships with colleagues both within the office and across other offices.
  • Good stakeholder management skills and applicable experience.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, frameworks, as well as Waterfall, able to take the place of a Product Owner when needed.
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively and delegate to team.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly organised with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to discuss and explain complex issues to all levels.
  • Knowledge of how to recruit, set up and perform user research, and comfort talking to customers to perform this.
  • Able to perform independent quantitative research using tools such as SQL, Google Analytics and Power BI.

Desirable:

  • Investment industry experience, either having worked in, or having invested themselves.
  • Knowledge of funnel optimisation, CRO techniques and service design principles.
  • Formal Product Management/Owner training.
  • Jira/Confluence/ProdPad experience.
