About the Role

We are seeking a Horticultural Research Technician to support plant-based trials at our Writtle Campus. The postholder will also play an important role in supporting postgraduate taught (PGT) students throughout their trial periods.

Key Responsibilities

* Supporting the understanding and implementation of trial protocols
* Operating and monitoring technical climate‑control equipment associated with glasshouse facilities
* Liaising with Masters‑level (PGT) students regarding trial protocols and experimental requirements
* Providing advice and guidance to students as required throughout the trial period
* Maintaining clear and effective communication with PGT students
* Assisting with fieldwork activities where appropriate

Training and Development

Training will be provided and will include the operation of technical equipment linked to the glasshouse, including climate-control systems and associated technologies.

Skills and Experience

* Experience working with plants, preferably in a glasshouse or controlled‑environment setting
* An understanding of horticultural or research trial protocols (or willingness to learn)
* Ability to work confidently with technical equipment following training
* Strong communication skills, particularly when working with postgraduate students
* Good organisational skills with attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
* Flexibility to undertake occasional weekend duties when required
