About the roleOur Shops and Distribution Centres provide one of our most important revenue streams and offer quality items and a friendly service.At a time of continued expansion, we currently have the following vacancy, 30 hours per week over 7 days:Would you like to work for a much-loved local charity?Do you have a passion for fashion and quality homewares?Would you like to join a highly successful retail team?As an Assistant Manager, it will be helpful if you have retail and customer service skills, although full training will be given.Responsibilities include: Using people skills to help deliver income to the hospice. Helping to give excellent customer service, assisting in managing a team of staff and volunteers, stock control, promoting and capturing Gift Aid, daily cash handling and banking, ensuring the staff, volunteers, the shop and the site are safe and secure. You will be energetic and love variety and keeping our shop commercial and appealing. You will have responsibility for all aspects of the business in the absence of the manager after full induction training.Location: The post is based in our Martlets Showroom/discount shop, Old Shoreham Road, Hove, but involves regular travel to the hospices, the Retail Distribution Centre and to other shops in Sussex. The role may involve managing and supporting in other shops as requested.Essential criteriaA good standard of general education to GCSE level or equivalent and/or qualified by experienceSupervisory experienceExperience of working with volunteers or as a volunteer preferredPrevious retail or business experienceGood interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and influence individuals and teamsAble to interact and collaborate effectively to support colleagues and other departmentsGood written and verbal communications skills with the ability to give written and verbal instructions effectivelyAble to communicate confidently with a wide range of people and with sensitivityAble to assess situations and defuse conflict situations positivelyA team player with the ability to work on own initiativeA valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel frequently throughout the working day across the catchment area for the hospiceThis list is not exhaustive.
