Overview
The post is based at Wigan, but you may be required to work at other sites. Medical Laboratory Assistants in Specimen Reception provide support to Blood Sciences and other departments in Pathology. The duties are varied and include entering patient data into the laboratory IT system, assisting with the laboratory handling of most types of specimens, helping with some analytical processes and performing general clerical work.
It is important to note that you will be required to work late shifts, weekend shifts and nights on a rota basis.
Responsibilities
* Main duty: entering patient data into the Pathology IT system.
* Assist with the daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and maintain laboratory archive systems.
* General housekeeping tasks within the laboratory.
* Help with the laboratory handling of specimens and support to Blood Sciences and other departments.
* Enter data accurately and maintain high standards of numeracy and literacy in routine tasks.
* Be able to lift heavy objects (e.g., boxes and waste) and push trolleys as required.
Qualifications and Skills
* Conscientious and capable of careful and accurate work with excellent customer care and communication skills.
* Good and accurate data entry skills with basic numeracy and literacy.
* Previous laboratory experience may be an advantage but is not essential.
