Specialist Power Systems in Kempston, Bedford are looking for two apprentices to join their team and gain an engineering qualification. Please note you will have to be able to drive for this role.

The apprentices will be Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) & Battery Service Engineers and will report to the Service Manager.
As an apprentice, you will be trained to meet the daily maintenance, commissioning, and repair needs of the customer’s UPS & battery equipment. You will establish and maintain proper business relationships with customers and peers, perform administrative duties, and undertake other duties as assigned.
The main purpose of the job is to complete training and assist Senior UPS engineers by attending customer sites, including onsite & manufacturer training, to become a UPS Service Engineer.

However, you will not need to travel to the office daily unless required to collect parts or meet another engineer to drive to a site together. You will travel from home to your assigned work location, visiting customer sites within the UK and abroad. A suitable van, mobile phone, and laptop will be provided.
Hours of Work:
If your scheduled work exceeds 12 hours including travel, overnight accommodation will be provided. Overtime and weekend work will be required. Out-of-pocket expenses, including subsistence, are covered.
Your main tasks will include:
1. Troubleshooting and repairing designated equipment (UPS & Batteries), diagnosing failures, and performing repairs on customer sites.
2. Completing Preventative Maintenance and field modifications, identifying potential failures, and demonstrating correct operation of equipment.
3. Maintaining administrative responsibilities, such as customer service logs and internal service records, promptly.
4. Completing job sheets and site paperwork, sending them to the main office by the next working day.
5. Attending all training courses and meetings, assisting colleagues, and working with new equipment on customer sites independently after training.
6. Observing health & safety guidelines, contributing to a safe working environment.
7. Referring follow-up work to appropriate staff, recording on job sheets, and ensuring timely quotations and actions.
8. Maintaining tools, PPE, and test equipment, ensuring they are calibrated and fit for purpose.
Your salary will vary depending on experience.
