We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our growing team as an Assistant Publisher on a 12 month fixed term contract.
What will you be doing?
As an Assistant Publisher, you will provide commissioning, administrative and title management support and coordination for the Partner Publishing team so they can achieve profitable growth in output, quality and reputation of our journal publishing.
Key job accountabilities include:
Editorial Management and Development
* To provide timely and effective administrative support to the Partner Publishing team.
* Assist with data retrieval for custom reporting and analysis for journal strategies by using both internal reporting systems and external resources.
* Coordinate reporting on key journal metrics and provide updates, analysis and recommendations to the Publishers and external stakeholders.
* Acting as a point of contact for external stakeholders – answering and escalating queries from partner organisations, editors, authors.
* Providing administrative and project support to the Partner Publishing team, including coordination of meetings with editorial boards and partner organisations.
Projects
* Perform market research when required using external databases.
* Provide support for department-wide projects including oversight of relevant continuous improvement initiatives.
* Contribute to partner commissioning including pipeline document management, provide support through research and analysis of potential partnerships.
Commissioning Activities [For Partners with IOPP Commissioning Services]
* Carry out desk-based commissioning for a list of journals, in line with journal commissioning plans.
* Day-to-day management of special issues, liaising with external Guest Editors as necessary.
* Regularly inform Publisher and Senior Publisher of commissioning activity progress.
* Provide administrative support for the journal commissioning program, ensuring that relevant contact data is accurate and managed in compliance with GDPR.
* Keep databases, as well as commissioning and contact databases up to date to ensure accuracy of information and effective communication.
About you
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Publishing experience in STM publishing (books or journals) desirable but not essential.
* Awareness of the role of academic research journals.
* Interest in scientific developments.
Skills & behaviours
* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to work effectively with internal colleagues and external stakeholders (authors, reviewers, editors, board members)
* Strong working knowledge of Excel.
* Ability to work autonomously and also as part of a team.
