Consultant Psychiatrist – Lincolnshire and Notts Prisons

The closing date is 02 June 2026

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist to cover psychiatric needs across HMP Lowdham Grange and HMP Ranby in Nottinghamshire. This is a full‑time position, but we welcome applicants interested in part‑time or portfolio careers after retirement.

You will provide mental healthcare to a highly disadvantaged population, working with a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals and neurodiversity experts, and benefiting from a polyclinic model with on‑site GPs, physiotherapy, dentistry, sexual health, opticians, and substance misuse services.

Your base site will be discussed and you will be expected to provide colleague cover in other prisons in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

You can work flexibly to undertake clinical administration, management duties and SPA from home.

Main duties of the job

Deliver trauma‑informed psychiatric care within integrated mental health teams in prisons. Assess, diagnose and treat people with severe mental illness, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions and complex comorbidity, ensuring equivalence of care with community services.

Supervise senior trainees from the regional higher psychiatric training programme in forensic psychiatry, covering Rampton Hospital, Arnold Lodge, Wathwood Medium Secure Unit, Nottingham and Derby low secure and community forensic services.
