You will play a key role in taking ownership of the ongoing operation and development of our Safety Management System within a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment, helping to ensure that health and safety requirements are fully embedded into day to day activities, projects and change initiatives. This is a hands‑on role, working closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality and Facilities to ensure safe systems of work, regulatory compliance and a strong, proactive safety culture throughout the business.
Responsibilities
* Take the lead on day to day health and safety advice and support to managers and employees across the site
* Lead and take ownership of the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the company's Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with the CAA regulations
* Develop our systems in an fast growing aerospace business, pushing for world class systems within Mirus
* Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations and internal standards
* Develop, review and maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements
* Support COSHH assessments
* Maintain site risk registers, near‑miss reporting and corrective action tracking
* Monitor health and safety performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
Audits, inspections and investigations
* Carry out regular workplace inspections and behavioural safety observations
* Support internal and external audits and regulatory visits as required
* Lead or support accident, incident and near‑miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective and preventative actions
* Track actions to completion and provide clear reporting to operational leadership
Training, engagement and safety culture
* Lead the development and delivery of health and safety training, inductions and toolbox talks
* Promote a positive and proactive safety culture across all departments
* Provide coaching and guidance to managers and supervisors to improve local ownership of health and safety
* Support employee engagement initiatives linked to health, safety and wellbeing
Change, projects and operational support
* Provide health and safety input into new processes, equipment, layouts and site changes
* Support operational and engineering projects by reviewing risks and ensuring safe implementation
* Work closely with Facilities and other departments to ensure contractor activities are planned, controlled and compliant
Reporting and governance
* Prepare health and safety performance reports and metrics
* Maintain accurate records, documentation and audit evidence
* Support management review activities and continuous improvement programmes
Required skills, experience, qualifications and attributes
* IOSH qualification or working towards
* Proven experience in a Health & Safety Officer or similar role within a manufacturing, engineering or regulated environment where you have led the H&S initiatives
* Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
* Experience owning or operating a formal Safety Management System
* Experience developing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
Desirable
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent recognised qualification) - or the willingness to work towards, with full training and support provided by Mirus
* Experience working within an aerospace or similarly regulated industry
* Awareness of ISO 45001 and its application within an operational environment
* Experience supporting environmental or sustainability initiatives
* Familiarity with LEAN / 5S or continuous improvement environments
* Experience supporting regulatory or customer audits

Be eligible to work in the UK, comfortable commuting or being based in Hingham, Norfolk and work flexible hours required.
