Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
This role is focused on winning new customers, developing long-term relationships, and building a robust, measurable sales pipeline. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities, converting enquiries into orders, and providing regular, structured reporting on sales activity, opportunities, and forecasted revenue.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
* Identify, target, and secure new customers within oil & gas, defence, nuclear, and other precision engineering markets
* Proactively generate new sales opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and market research
* Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact through quotation, negotiation, and order placement
* Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and deliverable
Customer Relationship Management
* Develop strong, long-term relationships with customers, buyers, and key decision-makers
* Act as a technical and commercial point of contact for customers
* Maintain regular contact with existing customers to identify repeat and new business opportunities
Pipeline and Reporting
* Build, maintain, and grow a structured sales pipeline covering leads, opportunities, and live quotations
* Regularly report on:
* New leads generated
* Opportunities by value and stage
* Likelihood of conversion and forecasted revenue
Market and Industry Engagement
* Identify new industries, applications, and routes to market for Lymington Precision Engineers' capabilities
* Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, and customer meetings
* Monitor competitor activity and market trends to inform sales strategy
Qualifications
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
Proven experience in B2B sales or business development within engineering, manufacturing, or technical environments
Experience generating new business rather than solely managing existing accounts
Strong understanding of selling into regulated or quality-critical industries (e.g. oil & gas, defence, nuclear, aerospace)
Ability to build and manage a sales pipeline with clear reporting and forecasting
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Commercially astute with a results-driven mindset
Desirable
Background in precision engineering, CNC machining, or subcontract manufacturing
Technical
Essential
Computer literate; working knowledge of Microsoft office programs
Self-motivated and proactive
Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of sales performance
Organised, structured, and data-driven in approach
Confident engaging with engineers, procurement teams, and senior stakeholders
Desirable
Experience working with technical drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements
Familiarity with ISO, AS, or industry-specific quality standards
Experience using CRM systems
