Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Midday Meal Supervisor include:

1. Supervision of Pupils

o Overseeing children in dining halls, classrooms, corridors, and playgrounds

o Ensuring safety, monitoring behaviour, and intervening when necessary

2. Supporting Mealtimes

o Helping younger or vulnerable children during meals

o Encouraging polite behaviour and independence at the table

3. Managing Play and Social Interaction

o Supervising outdoor and indoor play

o Promoting inclusive games and teamwork

o Encouraging children to resolve minor conflicts peacefully

4. Providing Emotional Support

o Assisting pupils who feel anxious, upset, or overwhelmed

o Being a friendly, approachable adult they can trust

5. Health, Safety, and First Aid

o Awareness of allergies, dietary needs, and medical conditions

o Administering basic first aid when necessary (training provided)

o Reporting accidents, incidents, or safeguarding concerns promptly

6. Team Collaboration

o Working with teachers, teaching assistants, and lunchtime staff

o Maintaining smooth transitions between lunch, play, and afternoon lessons

7. Routine and Structure

o Ensuring lunchtime runs smoothly by maintaining routines and expectations

o Supporting consistent behaviour management policies
