About the Role
Applications are invited for the position of International Clinical Training Fellow in Transfusion Medicine, commencing in August 2026. This prestigious training opportunity is designed to support the development of future leaders in transfusion medicine through dedicated subspecialty training within NHS Blood and Transplant in England. The post will be fully funded by the fellow’s home institution, including salary and associated expenses.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide daytime clinical duty work, taking queries from NHS Trusts and delivering clinical advice to inform decisions around individual patients and components.
* Perform and supervise all clinical work under the guidance of a named consultant.
* Submit at least one conference abstract and/or peer‑reviewed journal article during the fellowship.
* Deliver teaching to doctors, nurses, biomedical scientists and clinical scientists.
* Engage in quality improvement and project work, including participation in hospital transfusion team meetings and hospital-based transfusion practice.
Training and Development
Skills to be acquired include:
* Components, Donor Medicine, Red Cell Immunohaematology, Patient Blood Management (PBM)
* Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, Manufacturing and Logistics, Cell, Apheresis and Gene Therapies, Haemovigilance, Research, Audit and Quality Improvement
The fellow will be supported in pursuing an honorary contract with the regional NHS Trust to enable skill acquisition in hospital transfusion practice.
Locations
The appointed candidate will be based in Birmingham, Bristol, or London, with the final location agreed according to preference and training availability.
