Management Accountant
Role Summary
The Management Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate and timely monthly financial reporting, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. The role oversees daily financial transactions, reconciliations, and controls to ensure completeness, existence, accuracy, cut‑off, and correct classification of financial data. This position plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity and supporting business decision‑making.
Month‑End & Financial Reporting
* Own the month‑end close process for UK and US entities
* Prepare accurate monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
* Manage revenue recognition, including deferrals and accruals
* Oversee purchase invoice processing, accruals, and prepayments
* Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations
* Maintain fixed asset register and post depreciation journals
* Collect and prepare audit evidence and liaise with external auditors
Payroll & HMRC Compliance
* Manage the monthly payroll process
* Collect and validate payroll data
* Process payroll and upload payment files
* Reconcile payroll to HR records, bank payments, and accounting system
* Report to HMRC and pay monthly PAYE liabilities
* Reconcile pension payments to external provider statements
VAT & Compliance
* Prepare and submit VAT returns
* Ensure compliance with UK regulations including VAT, PAYE, pensions, audit and statutory accounts
Cash Flow & Working Capital
* Monitor and manage short‑term cash flow
* Ensure payments are made in line with approved invoices and terms
* Oversee allocation of debtor receipts
* Review cash position and identify invoicing facility drawdown requirements
Transactional Oversight
* Accurate sales invoicing
* Staff expenses processing and payment
* Management of aged receivables and aged payables, including timely reporting and collection/payment
Candidate Profile
* Proven experience in a hands‑on finance role within a small business environment
* Strong background in bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, P&L reporting, and audit preparation
* Advanced Excel skills
* Excellent working knowledge of accounting software (Xero preferred)
* Strong understanding of UK compliance requirements
* Ability to work independently, take ownership of the finance function, and operate flexibly across the business
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to meet strict month‑end and year‑end deadlines
* Adaptability in a dynamic environment
Qualifications & Experience
* Fully qualified accountant: ACCA, ACA, or CIMA
Salary & Benefits
