About The Role
Are you a skilled Building Surveyor looking to make a meaningful impact across a diverse and historic property estate? Plymouth City Council is seeking a proactive and experienced professional to join our Facilities Management Service and help shape the future of our built environment.
This is a dynamic, office‑based role with regular site visits, often requiring swift decision‑making to ensure health and safety and statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver day‑to‑day and planned maintenance programmes.
* Conduct building surveys including fire, asbestos, condition, and accessibility.
* Act as a competent person for statutory compliance (e.g. fire safety, asbestos).
* Manage capital and revenue projects up to £500,000 annually.
* Provide technical guidance and support on building‑related health and safety.
* Liaise with contractors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
* Respond to emergency maintenance requests and site incidents.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Building Surveying or related discipline.
* Membership (or eligibility within 18 months) of RICS or CIOB.
* NEBOSH certificate in a relevant area.
* Extensive experience in building maintenance, surveys, and project management.
* Strong knowledge of building regulations, H&S legislation, and risk management.
Desirable
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
* Experience in commercial environments with income generation.
Skills
* Strong numerical, communication, and IT skills (CAD/Digital Mapping).
* Ability to work independently and manage complex workloads.
* Comfortable working at height, in confined spaces, and in adverse conditions.
