The Opportunity
We have exciting opportunities at Heysham 1 Power Station to join our skilled Operations Department, which ensures safe and reliable power generation. As a Reactor Desk engineer, you will undergo a Control Room Training Programme. After successful completion, you will be appointed as a Duly Authorised Person within a shift team, responsible for operating the reactor and related equipment.
The Central Control Room teams play a vital role in providing operational oversight to the power station. You will identify and escalate plant issues based on performance, and maintain high standards in communication and human performance to ensure safety and reliability.
Pay, Benefits, and Culture
The salary range for this role is between £45,641 and £81,263. The starting salary will be within £45,641 - £68,958, based on your experience, qualifications, and the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement. An additional shift allowance of £13,365 - £18,884 applies. What You’ll Be Doing
Qualification as a Duly Authorised Person involves an 18–24-month training on our advanced reactor simulator, requiring both day and shift work. Once qualified, you will operate, monitor, and control the nuclear reactor and associated equipment during normal and abnormal conditions. You will work in the Central Control Room as part of a shift team overseeing plant activities.
Shifts follow a pattern of 2 days, then 2 nights, over a 10-week cycle, with working hours from 07:30 to 19:30, averaging 37 hours per week.
Who You Are
* Ability to think dynamically and balance multiple inputs for optimal decision-making
* Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Calm under operational pressure, maintaining quality and safety
* Relevant HNC qualification or equivalent; a relevant degree may be advantageous
