We have a vacancy within our Engineering Department and are currently recruiting for the role of EDM Subject Matter Expert. We are looking for candidates who have relevant and proven experience seeking an opportunity to develop their skills and join a growing Organisation. Location: Accrofab Alcester Limited B49 6EH Shift Pattern: 39 hours per week working the Day Shift; 07.30 to 16.30 Monday to Thursday and 07.30 to 12.30 Fridays with designated. Main duties and responsibilities: Technical Knowledge Extensive understanding of EDM principles, including spark erosion, dielectric fluids, and material removal rates. Expertise in various EDM types, such as Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, and Hole Drilling EDM. Familiarity with different electrode materials and their impact on the machining process. Understanding of EDM machine setup, parameters optimization, and tool wear monitoring. Hands-on Experience with EDM Equipment Practical experience in operating and troubleshooting EDM machines and controls. Knowledge of machine calibration, maintenance, and adjustments to ensure optimal performance. Familiarity with advanced CNC EDM systems, programming, and automation tools. Materials and Metallurgy Expertise Knowledge of how different materials (metals, alloys, composites) behave under EDM conditions, and the required parameters to control these conditions/deliver to customer requirements. Ability to recommend appropriate machining strategies for various materials and applications and optimize EDM settings (voltage, pulse duration, frequency) for efficiency and quality. Quality Control and Process Documentation Knowledge of quality standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.) and how they apply to EDM. Experience with process documentation, creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), and conducting quality audits. Training & Knowledge Transfer Ability to train and mentor junior engineers, machinists, and operators on EDM techniques and best practices. Ability to assess skill levels, provide constructive feedback, and foster a learning environment to improve team capabilities. Project Management and Collaboration Ability to manage EDM-related projects, from design to execution, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met. Experience collaborating with other departments (engineering, design, production) to optimize product outcomes. Continuous Improvement and Innovation Knowledge of emerging EDM technologies and trends; and the ability to incorporate these innovations into current practices.
