Overview
2026 Graduate Programme - Environment - Geotechnical Engineering, WSP, Newcastle, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. We are recruiting graduates to join our Geotechnics & Tunnelling teams who specialise in characterising ground conditions, identifying ground risk and producing low carbon designs to mitigate those risks. You will gain hands-on experience across the project life cycle with opportunities for site work and UK/Ireland travel.
Responsibilities
* Produce accurate ground models using a range of digital tools.
* Learn foundation and ground improvement techniques to manage ground risk and support safe, sustainable construction.
* Manipulate and plot data for site characterisation and support field investigations and design.
* Assist in the design of foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and other geotechnical structures.
* Prepare geotechnical reports, risk assessments, drawings and design documentation.
Projects
* Projects include A83 Rest and be thankful, Dublin Metrolink, multiple windfarms & energy hubs, HS2 N1/N2 and C2/C3 sections, Old Oak Common Station, Euston and Curzon Street Stations, Data Centres and Grid reinforcement projects.
Who we are looking for
* Graduated with at least a 2:2 in a master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject.
* Interest in Geology, Engineering Geology and how these disciplines relate to Civil engineering projects.
* Collaborative approach, willingness to learn, and desire to apply new skills to challenges.
* Willingness to travel occasionally for site work and to understand UK ground conditions.
* Good understanding of soil and rock mechanics; enthusiasm for creativity and problem solving.
* Desire to work with diverse clients and groups; ability to share new ideas.
Programme &Development
The two-year Graduate Development Programme offers blended learning, core business and professional skills training, mentoring for professional registration, networking opportunities and on-the-job experience. We support progression toward chartered status with bodies such as ICE and CGeol or IOM3, including enrolment in professional training agreements.
