The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Technical Data Officer / Database Developer on the Scottish Longitudinal Study (SLS).
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time working. This job is office based, being a service role and the data servers within the LSCS offices at New Register House (NRH) in Edinburgh, as we work on a secure network (ie Safe Haven approach).
In this post you will become a key member within the small team at the Longitudinal Studies Centre Scotland (LSCS). The LSCS is an infrastructure centre specialising in data creation, linkage and access. Working closely with the National Records of Scotland (NRS), we have responsibility for running the Scottish Longitudinal Study (SLS) Development and Support Unit (SLS-DSU) facilitating use of the SLS. Creating and maintaining databases, extracting datasets, and supporting their research use, you will work with colleagues to provide technical support to researchers. You will develop and apply creative solutions to problems including managing collections of complex datasets, ensuring adherence to data privacy guidelines and application of statistical disclosure control rules.
Your skills and attributes for success:
1. Demonstrable experience in database design, administration and support.
2. Experience of designing and delivering database queries and delivering data extracts.
3. Ability to translate project challenges into effective solutions.
