This appointment is for a Consultant Dermatologist to join the dermatology team at County Durham and Darlington. Nominal Base to be arranged. We are looking to employ a full-time Dermatologist, but part-time applicants will be considered. We would welcome a sub-specialist interest in skin cancer, surgery, vulval dermatoses or patch testing.
Job Description
Job responsibilities
* Provide general dermatology services including acute assessment of patients. Sub specialist interests such as vulval dermatology and patch testing may also be supported to be delivered.
* Attend and contribute to the service business and governance meetings to support strategic clinically led direction and robust clinical governance within the service.
* Support the on-call roster for acute dermatology issues.
* Undertake urgent suspected cancer clinics and dermatological surgery, as well as tele-dermatology provision.
* Departmental teaching – the postholder and their fellow consultants will be collectively responsible for the development and supervision of the more junior workforce.
* CPD – the postholder will be responsible for ensuring they meet national requirements surrounding contemporary practice.
* MDT – the post holder will be responsible for working / leading the wider MDT in clinical matters to optimize patient outcomes of care.
* Audit and governance activities – the postholder will participate in clinical governance arrangements in line with national and local guidelines.
* Patient Experience – the post holder will be expected to engage and support appropriate resolutions to Patient Experience Matters in support of the respective leads of the service.
* Ensure robust safeguarding of all patients where appropriate, liaising with paediatric specialists should a child or young person be involved.
* Collaborate with the operational managers and clinical lead to support the trust attainment of access standards for pathways in line with clinical urgency.
* Work with the clinical lead and operational leads of the service to grow and maintain high standards of clinical service: Quality, Safety and Access.
* The post holder and their fellow consultants will be expected to deputise for each other in the absence of colleagues in instances of Annual leave, study leave and sickness as far as is practicable and ensure continuous patient care.
* Where applicable and appropriate, the post holder will be expected to represent the Dermatology service in internal and external trust forums.
Person Specification
Special Requirements
* Essential: Flexible team worker; Commitment to CME and CPD; Willingness to undertake additional professional duties.
Qualifications
* Essential: MBBS or equivalent; MRCP.
* Desirable: MD, PhD or other formal research qualifications.
Experience
* Essential: Experience in Medical Dermatology and paediatric dermatology; Experience of Dermatology surgery; Experience of medical teaching.
* Desirable: Evidence of leadership roles in skin cancer provision; Evidence of participation in clinical research.
Statutory Registration
* Essential: Full and specialist registration with GMC (and Licence to Practice); Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration or be within 6 months of attaining CCT/CESR in Dermatology at time of interview.
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Essential: Clinical skills to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of Dermatology problems and run skin cancer clinics; competence in management of common and rare skin disorders; NHS management skills; excellent communication and teamwork; experience supervising trainees; experience in audit and Clinical Governance.
* Desirable: Particular experience in management of vulval dermatoses and patch testing; expertise in teledermatology provision, particularly in lesion assessment and urgent suspected cancer referrals.
