Role description:
We are seeking a Legal Counsel - Disputes Specialist (UK & Ireland) to provide high-quality legal support primarily for contentious matters, with capacity to advise on non-contentious issues. The role involves managing disputes and litigation, mitigating risks, and supporting strategic business objectives in the UK & Ireland.
Location:
This position can be based in Bristol or London, with a hybrid work arrangement.
Role accountabilities:
* Support the Litigation Business Partner in managing disputes, claims, and claims resolution strategies.
* Handle professional negligence, fee disputes, debt recovery, procurement issues, insurance disputes, and regulatory matters.
* Manage claims handling, including reviews, documentation, external legal team management, and reporting.
* Oversee litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes.
* Assist with non-contentious legal matters such as contract advice, negotiations, procurement issues, and corporate transactions.
* Deliver training and develop internal guidance to promote legal and contractual awareness.
* Contribute to disputes strategy, risk management, process improvements, and global legal standards alignment.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Qualified solicitor or barrister with current practising certificate in England and Wales.
* At least 4 years PQE with significant disputes and litigation experience.
* Proven track record in dispute resolution, including litigation, adjudication, and mediation, with TCC experience preferred.
* Experience advising on construction or engineering legal matters, including professional negligence and procurement issues.
* Knowledge of standard construction contracts (NEC, FIDIC) and the Construction Act.
Desirable Skills:
* Knowledge of environmental law, company law, arbitration, and advocacy.
* Experience working in a global organization or across sectors.
* Familiarity with regulations like Building Safety Act and CDM Regulations.
