An exciting opportunity has arisen for the permanent role of Team Manager in the Children’s Disability Team. This post is based in Newcastle, covering the Newcastle and Moorlands Districts.

There are four Children’s Disability teams across the County, providing specialist services for children and young people with complex disabilities. These are small teams of highly dedicated Social Workers supporting children and families to achieve the best outcomes in a timely manner, enabling them to live full lives. The teams are supported by skilled Family Practitioners who assist with behaviour management and direct work.

Flexible working options are available, including hybrid working.


Main Responsibilities

* Leading a team of practitioners, managing daily practice and safe work allocation.
* Leading on statutory responsibilities related to children’s safeguarding under relevant legislation.
* Providing professional leadership, motivation, and direction to the team.
* Ensuring effective practice and supervision within the team.
* Identifying and implementing service improvements through audits, quality assurance, training, and legislation interpretation.
* Participating in partnerships and relevant boards, e.g., LSCB, Children’s Continuing Care, locality arrangements.
* Maintaining and developing internal, local, regional, and national multi-agency partnerships to support best practice.


The Ideal Candidate

* Experience of working at a senior level within a local authority.
* Knowledge of Disability and related systems.
* Experience managing social workers and multi-professional teams.
* Understanding of relevant children’s social care legislation.
* Experience managing budgets effectively.
* Proven ability to build credible stakeholder relationships.
* Excellent supervision skills and ability to promote reflective practice.
* Ability to handle diverse issues, conflicting demands, and deadlines.
* Proven influence with decision-makers.
* Ability to collaborate with teams and partners.
