Job Title: Teacher of Design and Technology
Line Manager: Head of Design and Technology
Contract: Full time
Start Date: Preferred September 2026, or January 2027
Salary Scale: MPS/UPS
Job Purpose: To inspire and challenge students through high quality teaching and learning in Design and Technology, maintaining the highest expectations of achievement, progress, and personal development for all learners. The postholder will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective learning experiences that support outstanding student progress, while contributing to the continued development of the curriculum. Working collaboratively as part of a committed team, the Teacher of Design and Technology will promote excellence in teaching and learning, uphold professional standards, and contribute positively to achieving Whitstone’s strategic aims and targets.
The responsibilities outlined below are a summary of the main areas of responsibility and should be considered alongside the current academy teachers’ pay and conditions document, as well as the professional standards for teachers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide inspirational, engaging and focused learning to students across the age and ability range.
• Utilise a variety of resources and pedagogical styles to suit the differing aptitudes and learning styles of students.
• Teach timetabled classes, ensuring all lesson are well-planned, making sure lesson objectives are clearly communicated to students.
• Liaise with Subject Leader regarding any concerns.
• Mark students’ work regularly, keeping accurate records of assessments, setting specific targets for improvement and future progress.
• Setting appropriate home learning tailored to the needs of each group.
• Provide constructive oral and written marking feedback setting targets for student progress.
• Use of a range of teaching and learning approaches including use of ICT.
• Motivate student interest in the subject.
• Liaise with allocated LSAs, regarding how their presence can be most effective.
• Create a welcoming, well–ordered teaching base, where there is a sense of purpose.
• Be accountable for student performance and standards achieved in the groups taught at Whitstone School.
• To complete required reports regarding student progress.
• To provide progress and performance target setting data in relation to students in your teaching groups.
• To keep appropriate records of students' work.
• Attend parents’ evenings, subject meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
• Participation in your own performance management.
• Be a proactive member of the department, participating in departmental planning and development.
• Manage the arrival and departure of students to and from lessons in accordance with Whitstone procedures.
• Be vigilant within the classroom and uphold expectations regarding student conduct, dealing with any unacceptable behavioural incidents as per procedures.
• Serve as a Tutor, actively contributing to the Year Group by fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the Tutor role, liaising closely with the Head of Year.
Safeguarding, inclusion and statutory duties:
• All staff must uphold a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Any concerns must be reported in line with Whitstone School’s safeguarding procedures. Allegations regarding staff conduct will be addressed through child protection and disciplinary procedures.

Qualifications and previous experience:
• Degree level qualification
• QTS Status
• An understanding of the use of assessment to inform planning. Some experience of understanding and
interpreting data to identify and act upon underachievement and underperformance.
