The Payroll Manager at QTS Group Ltd is responsible for leading and delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services across a multi-site workforce. This includes managing payroll for all employees, covering monthly and 2 weekly payrolls both costed and noncosted, and a CIS payroll of subcontractors. The role requires strong payroll governance expertise, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage high-volume, multi-frequency payroll cycles within a fast-paced environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Payroll Operations Manage end-to-end processing of monthly and weekly payrolls for 850+ employees.
Manage and oversee Payroll team
Oversee the CIS payroll for subcontractors, ensuring correct verification, deductions, and submissions.
Ensure all payroll data is accurate, including new starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, allowances, bonuses, and statutory deductions.
Review and approve payroll outputs, ensuring accuracy before final sign-off.
Maintain payroll calendars and ensure all deadlines are met without exception.
Compliance & Reporting Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and CIS regulations.
Manage all statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP.
Complete and submit all HMRC submissions,
Maintain accurate payroll records for audit and internal control purposes.
Systems & Process Improvement Oversee payroll systems within QTS Group Ltd, liaising with software providers to resolve issues and implement improvements.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work, and enhance accuracy.
Support system upgrades, testing, and integration with HR and Finance systems.
Employee & Stakeholder Support Manage employee communications providing clear explanations for payroll related topics such as Pensions, Benefits, deductions etc
Work closely with HR on onboarding, benefits, and compensation changes.
Financial Collaboration Support month-end and year-end close processes
Collaborate with Finance on payroll reconciliations, reporting, cost analysis and audit information.
Prepare payroll cost reports, forecasts, and analysis for senior leadership as required.
Ensure payroll data integrity
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC rules, and CIS scheme requirements.
In depth knowledge of CIPP qualification
Familiarity with integrated HRIS and finance systems.
Proven experience managing high-volume, multi-frequency payrolls.
Proficiency with payroll software and strong Excel skills.
Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational ability.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Highly organised and deadline-driven.
Discreet and trustworthy with confidential information.
Able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
