Job Description:
Were currently seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our clients team in Stevenage. This is a key role supporting the finance department through accurate bookkeeping, effective credit control, and maintaining strong financial records using Sage Line 50.
Working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams, youll play an important part in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day financial processes and supporting the wider team with reporting and reconciliation tasks.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong numerical skills and prior finance experience, who enjoys working in a fast-paced, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
Handle day-to-day bookkeeping activities and maintain accurate financial records
Process and allocate daily bank payments and receipts
Manage the sales ledger, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts
Liaise with customers via phone and email to resolve payment queries
Monitor overdue accounts, issue reminders, negotiate payment terms, and escalate where appropriate
Develop and maintain positive client relationships to support efficient debt collection
Request purchase orders (POs) from customers, input onto invoices, and submit via client portals
Manage the purchase ledger, including processing supplier invoices and overseeing monthly payment runs
Reconcile supplier and customer accounts, as well as credit card transactions
Assist with the preparation of financial reports and statements
Check meter movements within the bespoke VMGR system, flagging and correcting anomalies
Requirements
Previous experience in a Finance Assistant or similar finance role
Strong numerical and analytical skills
High attention to detail with excellent organisational skills
Confident communicator, comfortable liaising with clients and suppliers
Proficient user of Microsoft Excel (intermediate level essential)
Experience with accounting software (Sage Line 50 preferred; Xero/QuickBooks also beneficial)
Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines
