The Emergency Services Network (ESN) is a huge strategic priority for BT and our commitment to do the best for our customer and our country. ESN will be one of the most advanced Emergency Services Networks in the world. and BT is proud to the official supplier providing mission critical and trusted communications for Britain’s Emergency Services. The ESN will replace the existing Airwave network and building upon on EE’s existing 4G network and to provide essential new voice, data services, and critical communications services to 300,000 members of frontline emergency service users.


Being able to provide consistent data that describes the capability of the Radio Access Network (RAN), is critically important to all our customers (BT, PlusNet, EE, and Emergency Service Network). This is a great development opportunity, building on your technical skills, that will include coding, to become an OSS design authority collaborating in the team that designs and delivers the radio vendor OSS, including layer 3 trace management and geolocation systems. As you develop working together you will create network automation, data and reporting solutions across vendors technologies that optimises the mobile network for a positive customer experience.


The successful candidate will be cleared to BPSS (or equivalent) as a minimum. You may even be required to undergo National Security Vetting (e.g. CTC, SC or NPPV).


What you’ll be doing

• You will working with the RAN OSS design authorities to develop design and automation capabilities for the RAN Element Managers and Trace Management tools that support the ESN contract
• Using your coding skills, and developing radio / network knowledge, to ensure the vendor OSS platform designs support the demands of the radio and transmission technologies
• Engaging with technical and non-technical business users using their requirements to propose solution strategy for predicting, planning and visualising RAN data

What we would like to see on your CV

• Excellent at writing software code in Python and experience in Unix/Linux scripting skills (including BASH, PERL). Thorough, or ability to develop an, understanding of radio network infrastructure data, all data formats/protocols or northbound interfaces
• Awareness of Mobile Radio Network & OSS architectures and the design and operational processes to develop and run the network
• Experience in OSS design, particularly in Network Element Management platforms, including Nokia MantaRay NM, Ericsson ENM, Cisco EPNM OSS, Trace Management and Geolocation tools
• Knowledge of IP Networks, virtual machines and cloud based hosting solutions
• Knowledge of working with AWS, Azure or other cloud hosting technology would be desirable

This role offers a 3 together, 2 wherever working model. This means you are required to be at your contractual location 3 days a week with 2 flexible days per week.
