Faculty of History and Faculty of Theology and Religion, Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford OX2 6GG. This vacancy is for internal applicants only; secondments considered. Contract type: Fixed Term until June 2026. Hours: Variable hours contract.
About the role: The faculties of History and Theology and Religion have been awarded a Humanities Teaching Project Grant in 2025/26. The project seeks to incorporate a new approach to diversifying the curriculum in the Humanities Division through a focus on histories of Judaism, Jewish experience and antisemitism. It aims to facilitate a far‑reaching analysis of blind spots and challenging topics within existing syllabi and bibliographies. The aim is to improve the incorporation of Jewish experience and histories of antisemitism into the curriculum, and identify opportunities for broader applicability across the Humanities.
The researcher will work collaboratively with the two project leads to survey the current landscape, engaging with stakeholders at all levels and taking account of how existing courses are incorporating histories of Judaism, Jewish experience, and antisemitism into relevant areas of the curriculum, identifying areas for improvement and models of good practice. The outcome is a co‑authored report for the two faculties to consider. This post is offered on a variable‑hours basis until June 2026, for up to 190 hours. The type and pattern of work will vary over the period.
Successful candidate: doctoral degree in a Humanities discipline, demonstrated expertise in Jewish studies and awareness of the history of antisemitism. Teaching experience at different levels within the collegiate university is an advantage. Excellent communication skills are required: the ability to write academic reports, present research proposals and results, and represent the project at meetings.
