Job Title: HV Cable Design Engineer

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced HV Cable Design Engineer to support the delivery of high-voltage cable projects for UK Projects. This is a remote-based contract role, operating Outside IR35, ideal for a self-sufficient engineer with a strong background in cable system design and utility-scale infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and contribute to the design of HV cable systems (typically 33kV to 400kV) for SSE and other UK infrastructure projects.
* Produce and review technical drawings, route layouts, cable sizing, and thermal analysis.
* Liaise with project managers, civil engineers, and electrical teams to ensure design integration and compliance.
* Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and design reviews.
* Ensure designs meet SSE standards, UK regulations, and industry best practices.
* Provide technical support during procurement, installation, and commissioning phases.
* Collaborate with stakeholders across disciplines in a remote working environment.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in HV cable design engineering, ideally on SSE or UK DNO/TNO projects.
* Strong understanding of cable routing, electrical design principles, and thermal/mechanical performance.
* Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, CYMCAP, or similar.
* Familiarity with UK grid codes, ENA standards, and CDM regulations.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage deliverables remotely.
