Key purpose of the role
To deliver high-quality fencing coaching across multiple weapons, inspire pupils of all abilities to engage with the sport, and support the continued development of fencing at Marlborough College through training, competition, and community engagement.
We are seeking candidates with the following skills and personal qualities
* Proven fencing coaching experience, ideally across foil and épée.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young people.
* Organised and reliable, with the ability to plan and deliver structured training sessions.
* Enthusiastic, approachable, and committed to fostering a positive sporting environment.
* Flexibility to support fixtures and competitions, including occasional evenings and weekends.
* A collaborative mindset, able to work effectively with colleagues, pupils, and parents
* Ability to maintain confidentiality at all levels.
* Confident, calm under pressure.
* An understanding of the importance of promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children.
* Flexibility to adjust to change and development.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver weekly training sessions for pupils of varying ages and abilities:
o Tuesday: Main training session (14:15 – 15:45)
o Tuesday: Beginners’ session (16:00 – 17:00)
o Thursday: Team matches on the Public Schools Fencing Circuit (times vary)
o Friday: Shell (Year 9) taster sessions (13:30 – 14:30)
* Prepare and mentor pupils for external competitions, particularly the Public Schools Fencing Championships (PSFC).
* Nurture and develop young talent, encouraging long-term engagement with fencing.
* Promote fencing within the school community and engage with parents and families.
* Support the Master in Charge of Fencing with fixtures, kit, and logistics
* Carry out any other duties within the team as requested or relevant to the role.
