3 months contract with a local authority
Job Purpose
* To work as part of the cemetery team to deliver a sensitive, respectful and high-quality burial and cemetery service across the Borough’s cemeteries. The role involves carrying out interments, maintaining cemetery grounds and buildings, and liaising professionally with the public, funeral directors and contractors.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Excavate graves using mechanical diggers or by hand as required, including the installation of shoring and preparation/dressing of graves for burial.
* Attend burials and exhumations, ensuring all procedures are carried out sensitively and professionally.
* Complete burial certificates relating to interments and maintain accurate, up-to-date cemetery maps and registers.
* Undertake grave maintenance including topping up, seeding, clearing dead flowers, wreaths and other waste.
* Carry out planting and grave maintenance in line with Council grave maintenance agreements.
Essential Experience Required
* Experience undertaking outdoor manual work relevant to the role
* Experience using a mechanical digger
* Experience in practical outdoor work
Essential Qualifications Required
* ICCM Cemetery Operatives Training Certificates Levels 1 & 2, or willingness to obtain within 12 months
Additional information to note
* Working Hours: 7.25 hours per day.
* Driving Licence required.
* Burwood Road, Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, KT12 4AR, United Kingdom
* There will be a short 15 minute test followed by a 45minute interview.
* The interview will be held at the Elmbridge Borough Council Civic Centre, High Street, Esher, Surrey KT10 9SD.
* We work on bi-weekly schedule.
