Senior / Principal Drainage Engineer Location: Christchurch Salary: £39,000 - £65,000 per annum An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the growing portfolio of infrastructure design projects within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies. My clients specialist consulting practice takes an integrated approach to assist clients from project conception, through consent, and construction. This holistic approach ensures innovative and deliverable design solutions, supporting their vision to create better places through good design. What You’ll Do: As a Senior / Principal Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and driving projects forward. Your responsibilities will include: Writing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy Reports to accompany planning applications. Using AutoCAD, Microdrainage / Flow, Civil 3D to undertake drainage and infrastructure designs. Liaising with and managing clients and third parties. Preparing fee proposals for Infrastructure Design and Flood Risk Assessment reports. Liaising with stakeholders, external project teams, and clients. Representing the company at meetings, public consultations, and exhibitions. Undertaking site visits. Collaborating with Environmental teams on Construction and Environmental Management Plans. What We’re Looking For: I am looking for a highly capable and adaptable engineer with exceptional intellectual, professional, and interpersonal skills. You will be pragmatic and resilient, able to navigate uncertainty and change while applying a logical, systematic approach to problem-solving. Strong analytical and numeracy skills are essential, along with the ability to present findings clearly and persuasively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to convey complex technical issues effectively to a range of stakeholders. You will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities efficiently, and demonstrating outstanding time management. Additionally, you should be self-motivated, able to conduct independent research, and produce high-quality reports with minimal supervision. Qualifications: BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) degree with a minimum 2:1 in a relevant subject (e.g., Civil Engineering, Geography); additional qualifications are advantageous. Commitment to continuous professional development through a Chartered Institution. Excellent analytical and numeracy skills. Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the UK on Highways and Transport Flood Risk and Drainage projects. Ideally experience with residential development. Proven ability to work independently and within a team, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and report writing skills. Proficiency in design and producing high-quality reports.
