Nursing Assistant

A nursing assistant position is available on Ward 2 at Hexham General Hospital. The role involves assisting qualified nursing staff in delivering high quality patient care, supporting patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team (MDT), maintaining high clinical standards, ensuring a clean, safe and hygienic ward environment, and delivering excellent communication.
Key responsibilities
* Assist qualified nursing staff in the delivery of high quality patient care.
* Provide assistance and support to patients, carers and the MDT.
* Maintain own nursing care standards and high clinical standards.
* Ensure a clean, safe and hygienic ward environment.
* Perform daily audits, record patient observations, and ensure ward safety.
* Support communication with patients, peers and devices.
* Assist in patient care under supervision, including end of life care.
* Record patient observations, prepare clinical area for procedures, perform bladder scans and ECG, and maintain patient records on IT/Nerve Centre.
* Support rehabilitation goals, encouraging engagement and fluid and food promotion.
* Conduct weekly equipment checks to ensure safety, and handle safe moving and handling.
* Work independently and as part of a team.
* Other duties as directed by senior nursing staff.
Additional job responsibilities
* Assist in ensuring adequate nutritional intake for patients, including food charts and fluid balance.
* Report any concerns to qualified nursing staff.
* Prevent and report skin damage.
* Adhere to Trust Policies and procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Provide personal care.
* Full training will be provided.
* Manage own workload.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Completion of a competency‑based programme or equivalent relevant experience.
* Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation.
Experience and Knowledge
* Previous care experience in a health or social care setting.
Personal Attributes
* Customer Care course.
Skills & Abilities
* Evidence of completed competencies aligned to the service area.
