Minor illness Nurse/Paramedic/ANP (BANK CONTRACT)

We are currently looking to recruit Minor Illness Nurses/Paramedics/ANP Nurses to work at Putnoe Walk in Centre.This can be on an ad hoc or regular booking basis. It is mainly a minor illness case mix, to see face to face patients with no additional admin work within the session.

Saturday/Sundays Rates:

Minor Illness Nurse/Paramedic/ANP (weekend Rate) 8am 2pm (from £40 - £45/hr)

You will need to have up to date Level 2 Adult/Child Safeguarding, BLS and on the NMC Register.

Main duties of the job

2.1 To initiate assessment, diagnosis, advice, treatments and referrals as required to care for patients presenting with undifferentiated conditions. The post holder is accountable for their own professional actions and is considered to be an autonomous practitioner.

2.2 To evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and referrals (as appropriate) through autonomous and accountable nursing practice in accordance with Putnoe Medical Practice procedures and NMC guidelines.

2.3 To provide support to other WIC team members including senior management, other clinical colleagues, reception staff and students on placement in the WIC.


About us

The Putnoe Medical Centre Walk-In-Centre (WIC) is a Nurse led service which provides open walk in access for health care advice and assessment, treatment and referral as needed to all patients and carers who have minor illness ailments. The WIC is open 8am to 2pm Monday to Friday and 8am 5pm Weekends and Bank Holidays..


Job responsibilities

Clinical

* To participate in the provision of directcare by undertaking initial assessment and diagnosis of patients leading toendpoints of advice, treatment and/or referrals within the nurses scope ofpractice and WIC policies, guidance and procedures.
* To be professionally, legally responsibleand accountable for the delivery of healthcare for patients presenting at the WICand for all aspects of own work.
* To interpret and analyse clinical andnon-clinical facts anduse clinical reasoning based on evidence based knowledge to formulateindividual diagnoses and treatment plans and utilise a wide range of treatmentoptions to develop the most appropriate plan of healthcare. This may include:
* thesupplying or prescribing of medicines
* dischargewith follow up as required
* health education to encourage self-helpand provide health Care advice as required.
* directreferral to other health, social or community services per agreed pathways
* Undertakeinduction working towards agreed competencies including: physical assessment,history taking, diagnosis, treatment and referral or discharge anddocumentation including treatment, supply of medicines under WIC patient groupdirections.
* Toappropriately identify and refer patients who present with clinical conditionsthat are beyond the scope of WIC care via agreed pathways
* To provide specialist advice whererequired to WIC colleagues where you have a recognised area of clinicalexpertise
* Touse all equipment in a safe and appropriatemanner at all times.
* To accurately analyse and interpretdiagnostic test results done in the WIC
* To accurately and professionally document allclinical findings and outcomes utilising accepted documentation tools andwithin existing legal frameworks.

Organisational

* To accept clinical responsibilityfor seeing users on a first come first served basis and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities.
* To implement and adhere toPutnoe Medical Centre policies
* Toattend meetings/briefings where required.

Communication

* To communicate complex and sensitive information inan understandable form for users and carers who may be distressed or havedifficulty coming to terms with a diagnosis and its implications.
* To communicate effectively with patients andcarers to ensure understanding of the condition and appropriate healtheducation and advice offered to maximise the benefit of the treatment plan.Takes cultural and social issues into consideration when planning care andtreatment.
* To assess capacity, gain valid informed consentand have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who requirean interpreter or advocate to consent to, and fully understand treatment.
* To be responsible for ensuring that appropriatemethods are utilised to effectively communicate with users who have barriers tocommunication e.g. hearing impairment, cognitive difficulty, language barriers,etc.
* To represent Putnoe Medical Centre and the WIC(locally, regionally and nationally) in a positive and supportive manner and inline with their policies and procedures.
* To communicate effectively and workcollaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health colleagues to ensuredelivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service, e.g. referral letters, aswell as appropriate communication with secondary care and the Child Protection Team.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience in assessing patients with a wide variety of conditions and presentations
* Experience within Accident and Emergency and Primary Care environments
* Evidence of participation in clinical supervision (either in the supervised or supervisor role)
* Proven post registration experience including evidence of working in any of these following clinical areas;
* Primary Care environments
* Experience of working autonomously


Qualifications

* Minimum 3 years post qualification experience as a nurse or paramedic.
* Experience of working in high pressured busy environment
* Experience of Clinical Triage
* Registered Paramedic FDSc or BSc qualified and registered with HPCP
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
* Independent Nurse Prescriber or currently studying
* Minor Illness Portfolio or >1 year experience in Minor Illness assessment
