We are recruiting: Interim Public Health Principal (Epidemiology & Evidence)
Location: West Midlands
Rate: £600 per day (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Our client is seeking an experienced Public Health Principal to lead the Epidemiology & Evidence function during a pivotal period. This role is central to shaping public health intelligence, supporting statutory duties, and preparing for future inspection and assurance activity.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead on statutory Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, technical reports for the DPH, needs assessments, and evidence reviews
2. Design and oversee robust data governance systems, including assurance of health data, audits, and evaluations
3. Present and interpret complex public health data in a clear and impactful way to senior officers, elected members, clinicians, and boards
4. Manage and support analysts and trainees, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs
5. Drive forward programmes of work across health and social care datasets, enabling effective decision making and change management
6. Influence strategic direction and ensure readiness for external scrutiny and inspection
The ideal candidate will have:
7. Proven experience leading public health intelligence at senior level within local government or health settings
8. A strong background in epidemiology, statistics, public health practice, and health economics
9. Experience of managing large datasets, budgets, and multi-disciplinary teams
10. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex evidence into actionable insights
11. Politically astute, with experience working in sensitive environments and delivering under pressure
12. A Master’s in Public Health (or equivalent Level 7 qualification) and evidence of continuous professional development
