Year 6 SEMH Teaching Assistant – September 2025 Start

Location: Stockport

Start Date: September 2025

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Year 6 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with ASD and ADHD, at a welcoming primary school in Stockport. This full-time role starts in September 2025 and is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is calm, proactive, and able to build meaningful, trusting relationships with children.

The school is specifically looking for a confident Teaching Assistant, as they believe this will help foster the most effective working relationship with the pupil. The child is often independent in their learning, but requires a consistent, supportive presence—particularly during unstructured times such as break and lunch—to help prevent any escalation in behaviour.

This role would suit someone with a genuine interest in sport or animals, as these are key interests of the pupil and can be used to help build a positive rapport.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with ASD and ADHD

Develop a positive and trusting relationship to anticipate and de-escalate behavioural triggers

Support the child both inside the classroom and during less structured parts of the school day

Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual strategies

Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour management

The ideal candidate will:

Be calm, consistent, and confident in managing behaviour

Have previous experience working with children with additional needs, ideally ASD/ADHD

Share a genuine interest in sport or animals

Be a clear communicator and team player

Ideally be male, in line with the specific needs of the pupil

Requirements:

Right to work in the UK

An up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last 2 years

A DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education

A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
