 
        
        Join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
 * Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the entire organisation, ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meeting net‑zero commitments.
 * Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for high‑ and low‑voltage power systems and control systems used in pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
 * Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
 * Hold a national incident response role, which may be required during normal working hours or out of hours.
Experience / Skills Required
 * A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * A good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
 * Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
 * Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
 * Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work management, team working and communication skills are a must for this role.

This is a hybrid role and we will allocate a base location near to your home. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel; some travel and overnights may be required.
